Partner's Day in Spain

Today we have celebrated the Partner´s Day. We have showed the DVD's of this year while the students, teachers and some mothers had a party with food and music.

The food was made at home by the students and their families. The party was at our Theathre at 14:15.

Dear students involved in Comenius,

It's been a tiring journey through this event and I would like to take this chance to thank you all for your involvement. I throughly enjoyed watching each county's numerous videos about the culture, themselves and their country as a whole. This experience has widened my peripheral outlook on the routine lifetsyles and interests of youths in Spain, Poland, Italy and Finland and helped me understand that our differences are only superficial and that we act more or less the same as each other, socially, economically and in a social sense.

Our video has been a joy to produce and I imagine your experiences were somewhat similar, I hope ours is as enjoyable to watch and I wish that you all learn something new about Ireland.

Goodbye!! :( It has been fun learning about your countries. The videos look really well.

España, Murcia looks like a beautiful place and the Medieval Party looks like a lot of fun!!

Polska, your pastries look really tasty! Our teachers wish we celebrated Teacher’s Day in Ireland.

Italia, underwater rugby looks hard but fun! The piggy was really cool (: and your teachers told us loads about your school. I think you would very much enjoy Transition Year in Ireland.

Suomi, Finland is so beautiful! I am very jealous that we don’t have ski centres in Ireland. Do you often see the northern lights?

I enjoyed meeting all the teachers from your schools, they were all lovely and gave us a great chat!

I learned loads about film making over the last few months.

Hello to the students that we are partnered with,

I thought the project was fun and interesting. The DVD was fun to make, I found some interesting facts about my own country too!

I enjoyed watching your videos too. They were fun to watch and I learned a lot about your countries.

We got to talk to a bunch of your teachers too, they were fun to talk to.

I learned more about editing the video than I had previously known.

I like being a young Irish person. Out relationship with Europe, in my eyes is good.

"not backwards in coming forwards" – means a person is not shy.

"no flies on him" – means a person is not easily deceived.

"she has a tongue that would clip a hedge" - means a person who gossips.

"come for a day and stay for a week" – means someone outstaying their welcome.

Hello everyone involved in the Comenius project 2011.

I am one of the Irish students who got to see the finished projects from each of the participating countries. I.really enjoyed the free time video from Spain with the music from naruto. Also the free time video from Finland was awesome. All the skiing you guys get to do must be awesome would love to go skiing but we don't get much snow here in Ireland.

Our dearest friends from Ireland! We are very happy that we will meet You and spend time in Dublin. It seems to be very interesting plan of our visit. We regret that it will be the last meeting of our Comenius group… See you soon! Thomas, Sylvia, Kathy and Ted.

Cultural Heritage Workshops in Rovaniemi

On March 14th the students involved in the SOS Comenius project participated in a series of workshops in Arts, Drama, Handicrafts and Ice fishing/Woodcraft skills.

In the Drama workshop the students created scenes for their multimedia presentation, the topic of which is the Finnish Sauna. For earlier generations the Sauna was not only a place for bathing but also a place for women to give birth and bodies to be stored before burial.

The students of the Arts workshop explored topics such as Reindeer, Torne River Valley, the Lapland War in Finnish cultural heritage.

In the Handicrafts workshop the students visited a local feltmaker Helvi Juujärvi. She is an artisan, who is specialized in handmade felting and traditional sheep pelt blankets. In Helvi's workshop the students learnt the basic techniques of wet felting.

The students and teachers in the Ice Fishing / Woodcraft skills workshop spent the day by the river ice fishing, glowfrying salmon and learning the skills needed when hiking in the wilderness.

Singing Pasłęk

On the 29^th of October in ZS Pasłęk there place the eight Regional Foreign Song Competition, which was under the auspices of the Chief Executive of Elbląg County – Mr Sławomir Jezierski. This year 87 candidates of different Middle and Secondary Schools from many towns and villages entered a competition in our school. Students sang songs in English, French, Italian and Spanish languages. The Jury had to make a very difficult decision to announce the winners, who were awarded diplomas, statues and valuable prizes: mp4, mp3, pen drives and interesting books. Organizers of that cultural event were 3 teachers: Sylvia, Beata and I. Of course our students helped us a lot with whole thing!

New blog!

We have started to make a blog where we follow how our students are progressing with their presentations. The presentations are going to be on display when SOS-meeting is here in Rovaniemi in the end of November. In the blog you can also find questions from our students if they need to know something about other SOS- countries. So it would be nice to have anwers to them:)

Young blood saves life

From three years our school has taken part in the competition for young honourable blood donors entitled “Young blood saves life”. Last year ZS Pasłęk’s students donated 50 litres of blood for transfusion in medical operations, which gave us the first place in our region. On the 7^th of October we won the cup and the diploma as a prize in that noble competition. I also felt really delighted to be awarded first prize from the Chairman of Polish Red Cross Organization as a teacher who was responsible for that action.

On the 22^nd of October another blood donation was organized in ZS Pasłęk, which 39 students participated in. So far we have collected 17 litres of blood but that not our last word. We’ll plan next action in March or April.

We are so proud of our students and their selfless help for other people’s needs and hope that we will also win this competition next year!!! I’m enclosing few photos. Best wishes, Thomas

Teacher’s Day

The 14^th of October in Poland is called “Teacher’s Day”. On that day all schools have a day off and a day before is a celebration day with best wishes and flowers for teachers. Students to our surprise prepared a parody of popular show “Got talent”. At assembly the principal announced which teachers got awards for successes in work with students and other achievements in teacher’s prophesy. In this year the highest distinction – the Award of the National Education Minister got Iwona. Sylvia, Kasia and I got the Award of the Headmaster. Thomas
